I privately sent you a password when I set up your @jewishspacelasers.net email account. You should change that password. You’ll need to know the password when you connect up your email client to it, now or in future, but you won’t need it on a daily basis. So, yay for that.

How to change your password

  1. Use your browser to navigate to https://jewishspacelasers.net:2096
  2. Sign in using the email address you asked for, and the temporary password I gave you

2. Find your email address in the upper right of the browser window, then click on ‘Passwords and security

3. You’ll see the usual “New password” and “Confirm new password fields”

4. Enter your new password, enter it again to confirm it, then click save

5. When you see the “success” message, you’re good to go.

6. Now, you can begin using your email.

Choose a password you can remember

Why is it important to remember your @jsl.net password? Or to securely store it somewhere that you can access it when you need it? There’s no self-service password reset capability. The web hosting package I’m using for this is very cheap. Free email is basically an add-on to that. And it’s bare-bones, yo. That’s also why there’s no option to add security with two-step verification.

If you forget your password, you’ll need to touch base with me to reset it for you. Let’s try to avoid that.

Good password guidance for @jsl.net or anywhere

  1. Don’t choose one of the most common passwords
  2. Don’t re-use a password you use for some other account

And because I love you and I do this for a living, here’s a link to Microsoft’s paper on choosing good passwords. (Hint: unlike some things, longer isn’t better.)
