Start the ‘add email’ address experience in gmail
In Gmail on a PC, click on the gear in the upper right corner of the page, then click “All settings.” You’ll see the categories of settings in a menu bar that begins “General.” Click on “Accounts and Import” which is just a little to the right of that. A few items down in the list, find “Send mail as” and click the link to “Add another email address.”
Configure naming that your email client will use
In “Name” enter the name that you want to be shown as the “From:” in emails you send. E.g., “Albert Camus.” In email address, enter “bacon@jewishspacelasers.net” or whatever email address you asked for.
De-select the checkbox for “Alias.” Since you are not *that* weird, you’ll want to choose when and when not to use your @jewishspacelaser.net email address to respond to emails. Click next.
Configure ‘Send mail through your SMTP server”
On the next page, enter these values, because.
- SMTP server: mail.jewishspacelasers.net
- Port: 465 <== put this in the dropdown
- Username <== your email address e.g., “bacon@jewishspacelasers.net”
- Password: The password you set, above
- Leave the default option set for SSL and not TLS. At least, that’s what I did. And it works.
Then, add the configuration your email client needs to retrieve & show you messages from your @jewishspacelasers.net email account.
- Username <== your email address e.g., “bacon@jewishspacelasers.net”
- Password: The password you set, above
- POP server: mail.jewishspacelasers.net
- Port: 995 <== put this in the dropdown
Confirm that Gmail should have access
Once you’ve configured this, Google will send a mail to your @jewishspacelasers.net email address to confirm you want Gmail to be able to access this. If you get this email in your Gmail account, rock & roll – click the confirmation link & you’re done. It may only show up in the webmail client that I mentioned way up above – so be sure to check there. Once you click the link to confirm the gmail integration, you’ll probably never need to use this email client again.
And then in Gmail, you’ll be see emails sent to your @jewishspacelasers.net email address in your inbox, alongside other emails. And when you compose an email, a dropdown experience in the email composer lets you choose which email to send “from.”
